Our Rector, Sarah, together with church members Penny and Felicity, were delighted to attend a planning event today for the upcoming World Day of Prayer. This annual gathering brings Christians from all denominations together in a spirit of global solidarity, shared faith, and compassionate action. It was an inspiring day filled with thoughtful discussion, prayerful reflection, and a deep sense of connection with the worldwide Christian community.
The theme for the 2026 service will be “I will give you rest, come.” This gentle and hope-filled invitation encourages us to draw near to God, to lay down our burdens, and to discover the peace that only God can offer. In a world where many people experience uncertainty, pressure, and unrest, the theme feels especially timely. It reminds us that God calls each of us into a place of spiritual rest, renewal, and trust.
Next year’s service has been prepared by women from Nigeria, whose stories and testimonies will form the heart of the event. Their experiences—rooted in faith, resilience, and a desire for justice—will inspire us to reflect more deeply on what it means to work towards a fairer and more compassionate world. Through their words, we are invited to come closer to God, to listen more attentively to the voices of women around the globe, and to respond with love, understanding, and action.
We are thrilled to share that St John’s Church has been chosen as the regional host for this special service. It is a great honour for our community, and we look forward to welcoming churches and visitors from across the region. The service will take place on Friday, 6th March 2026, and we will be sharing further details as the date approaches. We hope many will join us for this meaningful and uplifting occasion.
