Kelsborrow Choir Celebrates 70 Years with Special Anniversary Concert at St John’s
We are delighted to welcome Kelsborrow Choir to St John’s Church this September for a very special concert celebrating an impressive 70 years of music-making.
Taking place on Saturday 12th September at 7.30pm, the Kelsborrow Choir 70th Anniversary Concert promises to be a wonderful evening of choral and organ music in the historic surroundings of St John’s Church, Chester.
The choir will be joined for the occasion by a very special guest, international concert organist Jonathan Scott, adding another dimension to what promises to be a memorable musical celebration.
Celebrating 70 Years of Kelsborrow Choir
Reaching a 70th anniversary is a remarkable achievement for any musical organisation and this special concert provides an opportunity to celebrate the generations of singers, musicians, supporters and audiences who have been part of Kelsborrow Choir’s story.
For seven decades, the choir has brought people together through a shared enjoyment of music. Anniversary concerts are always particularly special occasions, providing an opportunity not only to look back at everything that has been achieved but also to celebrate the continuing tradition of live choral music.
We are therefore particularly pleased that St John’s has been chosen as the setting for this important milestone.
With its wonderful historic interior and long association with music and worship, St John’s provides a magnificent setting for choral performances. The scale of the building, combined with its atmosphere and acoustics, helps to make concerts here a very special experience for performers and audiences alike.
Special Guest Jonathan Scott
Joining Kelsborrow Choir for the evening will be acclaimed international concert organist Jonathan Scott.
Jonathan is well known for his organ performances and has built an international reputation as a concert musician. His appearance at St John’s will give the audience an opportunity to experience our church filled with the extraordinary sound of organ music alongside the voices of Kelsborrow Choir.
The combination of choir and organ in a building such as St John’s should make for a particularly atmospheric evening and a fitting way to celebrate the choir’s 70th anniversary.
Whether you are already a follower of Kelsborrow Choir, enjoy organ and choral music, or simply fancy experiencing a concert in one of Chester’s most historic buildings, you will be very welcome to join us.
Music Supporting a Wonderful Cause
The evening is not only a celebration of music; it is also a fundraising concert supporting The Joshua Tree.
The Joshua Tree has been supporting families affected by childhood cancer for 20 years. Its work recognises that a childhood cancer diagnosis affects the whole family, providing support to help families through an enormously challenging period in their lives.
It makes the anniversary concert particularly meaningful, with an evening of music and celebration also helping to support the work of an important charity.
By coming along and enjoying the concert, members of the audience will therefore also be helping Kelsborrow Choir support a very worthwhile cause.
Join Us at St John’s

St John’s is one of Chester’s great historic buildings and we love seeing the church filled with music and people. Events such as this are a wonderful opportunity to experience the building in a different way and to enjoy live music in a setting that has been at the heart of Chester for centuries.
