After the hectic Christmas Celebrations, both Sacred and Secular which carried through to the end of January; we now come to a relatively quiet month which however does start with a sort of big Bang:
On 2 February we celebrated the end of the Christmas Period on Candlemas Day when we blessed the candles for the coming year and also remembered the rhyme in English Folklore:
If Candlemas Day be fair and bright,
winter will have another fight.
If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain,
winter won’t come again”
On 6 February we remember the death of King George VI and the Accession of Her Majesty The Queen, and this year 2022 is unique in that 6 February opens the Royal Platinum Jubilee Year – 70 years on the throne, longer than any Sovereign of this Nation (We will be having events throughout the year –( keep an eye out on here) also we could do with a few Volunteers to help with events.
For the rest of February, we prepare ourselves to bring in the Penitential Season of Lent on Ash Wednesday (2March)
